“We Are Constantly Fighting for the Sustainability of the Light System in Mongo Bendugu” – NAO Leone Light Agent

The NAO Leone Light Agent in Mongo Bendugu- Mohamed Amara Dabor has raised concerns over the ongoing challenges affecting the sustainability of the community’s electricity system, calling for collective responsibility from residents to safeguard the service.

Speaking during an interview on the popular morning program “ *Good Morning Falaba* ” on Radio Museh 98.5FM, the agent highlighted persistent operational issues impacting the light system in Mongo Bendugu and its surrounding communities.

According to him, the electricity project was commissioned in 2021 by the Ministry of Energy in collaboration with development partners. At the time of its launch, the system served 176 registered households. He noted that the number has recently increased, with an additional 52 households now connected to the grid—bringing both progress and pressure on the system.

Despite this expansion, the agent revealed that the absence of electricity meters remains a major challenge.

“Currently, there are no meters installed, and we cannot give an exact timeline for their availability,” he explained.

However, he assured listeners that plans are underway to introduce meters and enhance the system with additional infrastructure, including batteries that will improve electricity supply during nighttime hours.

Dabor also expressed concern over illegal connections and unsafe practices by some residents, warning that such activities threaten the long-term viability of the project. He urged community members to desist from unauthorized connections and support efforts to maintain the system.

“We are constantly fighting for the sustainability of the light system,” he emphasized, appealing for cooperation from all beneficiaries to ensure uninterrupted service.

Looking ahead, he confirmed that an expansion plan is in progress to extend electricity access to more households. He stated that full details will be communicated to the public once the plan is finalized.

The Mongo Bendugu light system remains a critical development initiative in Falaba District, providing much-needed electricity to rural communities. However, its continued success, stakeholders say, depends heavily on responsible usage, community support, and ongoing investment in infrastructure.
